The heat pump uses air-source heat pump technology. A Heat Pump Is an electrical device that extracts heat from one place and transfers it to another. The heat pump transfers heat by circulating a refrigerant through a cycle of alternating evaporation and condensation. A compressor pumps the refrigerant between two heat exchanger coils. An outdoor unit has a coil in which the refrigerant is evaporated at low pressure and absorbs heat from its surroundings. The refrigerant is then compressed on its way to the indoor unit coil, where it condenses at high pressure. At this point, it releases the heat it absorbs earlier in the cycle. The process is illustrated by this diagram.
Given a heat pumps ability to absorb heat from the surrounding outside air, the System is extremely efficient producing as much as 5.45 kw of heating energy from just 1 kw of electricity supplied. This compares very favourably to other forms of heating as they produce only about 0.9 kw of energy for every 1 kw supplied see diagrams below.
Heat Pump Technology is Environmentally Friendly!

With these you need to dig a large hopper (tank) to store pellets, so you need a big area and access. Expect to pay £ 12,000 for installation.

This involves installing 60-100 m² of panels on your roof, as well as extensive plumbing to connect them up to your "wet" system. You will also need a new hot water tank (dual core). They work reasonably well in the summer, but not all that well in winter.

This involves installing an array of 5KWp solar panels on the roof, at a cost of £26,000. but bear in mind this does not provide heating just free electricity. So we would still need a heating system!

These are more intrusive as you have to connect to your "wet" system. You would expect to pay £ 10,000 for installation. You will also need underfloor heating as these only give a water temperature of 40-50 degrees C, which is not enough for normal radiators.

These are even more intrusive With these you need to dig a large hole in the ground (50m²), so you need a large free piece of land and access for a 40 ton boring lorry. Expect to pay £ 30,000 for installation. As with air-to-water systems we will also need under floor heating (another £5,000).

Typical Installation
This will depend on what you choose ,but topically the indoor unit should be placed in an open area giving the unit the ability to circulate the air in the house (if you choose to have just one indoor unit) this is often in the hallway 0r above the front door. It should be placed at about 2 to 3 metres above the floor, and at least 10cm (4") below the ceiling.
The indoor unit should always be placed on the ground floor when used for heating purposes as warm air tends to rise upwards.
We always design a system specific to your needs. The basic system consists of an indoor unit. (See bellow)
that should be placed in an area where it is given a good ability to distribute the air around the house. A location we usually recommend is in a hallway. The warm air will spread around the house as warmer air seeks to displace colder air, as it is less dense. Doors should be kept partially open or at least ajar for rooms that need to be heated (ventilation grilles can be added for doors that need to be closed) there is no need for additional fans as the unit is extremely powerful the heat will rise in two storey houses heating the entire house. The process is simple, as illustrated by this diagram.
